Elixir Radar Newsletter Issue #526

This issue is brought to you by Potions.io ...

You chose Elixir for the BEAM. Don't deploy somewhere that hides it.

Potions provisions and manages your own DigitalOcean or Hetzner VPS, then deploys Phoenix on every push: zero downtime, automatic SSL, PostgreSQL, full SSH.

Articles

His CI failed on mix hex.audit, but the flagged package was newer than the fix. AbulAsar Sayyad shows how he traced the false-positive advisory back to a single field in the CVE record, why CI was still right to stop, and how he handled the temporary exception.

To really understand attention and transformers, Jason Dew implemented a tiny language model in Elixir from scratch, no libraries. He shared the code and the slides, and the slides themselves are a Phoenix LiveView app that trains and runs the model inside it.

Elixir for Finance book - Sponsor

This is the third book I've worked on with Alex Koutmos. For this one, he brought in his brother, who holds a PhD in finance. You'll learn how to use Elixir to understand financial markets, so you can analyze your own portfolio and investments.

"My job is to write loops", said Claude Code's creator. Zarar Siddiqi shares an example of what that looks like: a Bash script that uses an LLM model to hunts flaky ExUnit tests.

Monitors let a process observe another one's death, but sometimes two processes should fail together. Krishnadas continues his distributed systems series with process links: spawn_link, exit propagation, and trapping exits, using plain processes with no GenServer or Supervisor.

Videos

Should your AI tooling be an exoskeleton or an autopilot? Zach Daniel makes the case for the exoskeleton and shows how they built theirs at his company, from a simple GitHub Actions bot to flows that keep docs updated and watch production, always with a human accountable.
